D. M. Cross
D. M. Cross was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Washington, DC. She started writing at age 10 when her mother gave her a diary so she could write about her adventures during the family’s summer vacations. In high school, she wrote skits performed in class and short stories based on popular television shows that she shared with "like-minded" classmates.
After receiving her BS in Theater from Northwestern University, she returned to DC and completed a one-woman play about the world's first self-made millionairess, Madam C. J. Walker. She performed Madam at the National Theater's Helen Hayes Gallery becoming the first performer of the Monday Night at the National series to have a Standing Room Only audience. Another one-woman play, Black Roses, about 3 important African American women, was produced by Young Audiences of Washington, DC.
Currently, D. M. is working on several projects including the screenplay version of A Long Way From Home; a play about pilot Bessie Colman, The Jump; and a non-fiction, Ebony Images: The African American Film Experience in Film, which combines her love of film and history.
Other stories by D. M. include The Curist, which received Honorable Mention in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest, 3rd Quarter 2024 and the Baltimore Science Fiction Society Amatuer Writing Contest; and Dance With Me which appears in the Creatures, Crimes and Creativity Anthology 2024 and Kinsman Quarterly Iridescence Anthology.
D. M., her husband of 30+ years and their daughter live in Maryland. She gives a hearty shout out to The Husband for sticking with her that long.
